Scouting in Old Town is only possible because of a dedicated team of adult volunteers. But for Scouting to continue to offer opportunities to the young people of Old Town, we need more adults to join our team.
If you are interested in getting involved, we will find a role to suit you … whether you want to volunteer for a couple of hours a week, a couple of hours a month, or a couple of hours a year! Whether you want to work directly with young people or help out behind the scenes. Some of the types of role we currently have available are listed below, but if none of these roles are quite what you’re looking for please do get in touch for a chat about how you could fit into the team!
Our team fits in their volunteering around full-time jobs, studying, families and other interests. Could you give a small amount of your time to support Scouting in Old Town?
Some of our current opportunities can also be found on the national volunteering website, do-it.org.
Helping out with meetings
Do you have a passion for helping children take part in everyday adventure? Supporting our leader team is a great way to get involved with scouting in Old Town. What’s more, you’ll get to take part in activities you’d never otherwise have the opportunity to do!
You’ll need to be available on a weekday evening – for our younger sections (Beavers age 6-8 and Cubs age 8-10.5) sessions usually start at around 6pm or 6.30pm, whilst the older ones (Scouts age 10.5-14 and Explorers age 14-18) usually start at 7.30pm.
With our flexible volunteering approach, you can volunteer at a frequency that suits you – if you can only make it once a fortnight or once a month, we’d still love to hear from you.
No prior experience is necessary. There’s plenty of support and help available.
Occasional Skills Instructor
Maybe you’ve got a particular skill that you could share with the young people in the group? Or you’re keen to learn something new? We’re looking for skills instructors for a range of activities, all at times to suit you!
This role would be ideal if you’d enjoy working with young people to deliver an activity, but can’t commit to a regular timeslot.
Are you keen to help Scout Groups in Old Town to raise money? Fundraising is an important part of what we do – both to enable ourselves to do some great activities, and to support others as well.
There are various administration roles which are available. With our integrated online system (‘Online Scout Manager’), most of these can be done in your own time, from home. Perhaps you could agree to look after the badge records, or manage gift aid claims?
Want to join the adventure but not sure how you can take part? Do get in touch with us, there are roles for everyone!
